Abstract

The article examines the influence of the melodic-harmonic component of popular music on music education. The mechanisms of interaction between professional and popular musical cultures, the influence of pop music on music education for the purpose of objectivity and coverage of the context are analyzed using musicological and cultural approaches; the social content of the popular song, the features of its subject matter are emphasized. A conclusion is drawn regarding the role of technical means and their influence on mass auditory perception: as a result of the transfer of the creative function to technical means, there is a loss of musical landmarks and auditory representations. Music education, which is based on the gradual mastery of world musical experience through music theory and musical performance, is often subject to social pressure due to complexity, duration in time. It has been established that the melodic and harmonic profile of modern pop music is very different from the classical basis, is built mostly on chants, short melodic turns; musical dramaturgy is leveled. In the classical tonal and harmonic system, the major dominant in the minor (in which the vast majority of pop songs are written) creates a center of dramatic tension, a sharp dominant pull, emotional dramatic pressure. Analysis of the harmony of songs that are leading on YouTube and Spotify showed that most of them are devoid of the major dominant, in favor of the minor or other chords of the natural minor, which deprives the composition of internal musical dynamics. In addition, it is concluded that the imitation of the African-American manner of singing comes into dissonance with the tradition of Ukrainian melodism, and gradually universal vocal mastery and the ability to combine different singing styles are lost among young vocalists. All this is dissonant with traditional methods of music education, which require thoughtful, creative and analytical work on the melody, harmony, and structure of the song as a musical primary source. The dissonance between the traditions of music education and the sound musical space of digitalized reality requires scientific understanding to overcome the cultural and artistic gap between the traditions of professional education and the commercial segment of pop music.
